Inherited a rt2400 wireless chipset on a older amd box. Setup CentOS 5.1 and tried compiling the rt2400 & rt2x00 packages but nothing will compile. Finally after a day of mucking around i have downloaded the stock kernel from kernel.org - 2.6.25 and have compiled the driver statically into the kernel with debug support.

I am able to see the interface, using iwconfig even configure the essid and see the AP. But for some reason i can't get onto the network. I suspected it could have been an issue with WEP setup and tried setting up my network in an un-encrypted mode(Without WEP) but even that ain't working. dhclient won't obtain a lease and ofcourse when i give it a static IP it won't ping any of the machines on my network.

Am pretty sure i am doing something really lame. Posting truncated o/p of dmesg/iwconfig/ifconfig. Appreciate inputs from you folks.

I don't mind going back and giving the driver compile on Centos 5.1 a shot...but i can't make sense of what the errors are. I have tried compiling against both the CentOS 5.1 & 2.6.25 kernels but it ain't building. The only way out was for me to try stock 2.6.25 and here is where i now stand.

Any project developers who can help!!!!. Have tried getting this to work but can't make any progress. Again have tried with knoppix 5.1, the card is detected but can't see the ap. When i force it to see the ap by supplying the mac for the AP it won't authenticate. Aint sure whats happening here.

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi trevorwarren,

From the debug messages you posted, it looks like you may be using the nextgen driver. You may wish to post in that section.

If you wish to use the legacy driver, you need to disable building the nextgen driver in your kernel source, then download a CVS tarball and try that.
