Dear guys,

I've installed rt2500-1.1.0-b4 on a debian sarge with kernel 2.6.8-3-686

I've followed istructions at your Debian_rt2500_Howto page[/url2goqtdzt]

I've a fon router and everything works fine when i connect to FON_AP which is not password protected.

[quote2goqtdzt]iwconfig ra0 mode managed
iwconfig ra0 key open
iwconfig ra0 key off
iwconfig ra0 essid "FON_AP"
ifconfig ra0 192.168.182.71
route add default gw 192.168.182.1[/quote2goqtdzt]

Instead I'm not able to connect to MyPlace wich has a WPA protection.

I use the suggested script:

[quote2goqtdzt] ifconfig ra0 up
iwconfig ra0 channel 5
iwconfig ra0 essid MyPlace
iwpriv ra0 set AuthMode=WPAPSK
iwpriv ra0 set EncrypType=TKIP
iwpriv eth-wifi set WPAPSK="My wireless password"
[/quote2goqtdzt]

After the script has run the LED of the card starts blinking. It blinks 3 times than loose the connection with the AP, and restart to blink.

It does the same even if I use the tool rutilt

The interesting thing is that the LED blinks in the same way and doesn't connect when I use the official RT2500 driver in WINDOWS with the card software. I can connect via WPA only with the windows wireless setup.

Hello,
ifconfig ra0 up
iwconfig ra0 channel 5
iwconfig ra0 essid MyPlace
iwpriv ra0 set AuthMode=WPAPSK
iwpriv ra0 set EncrypType=TKIP
iwpriv eth-wifi set WPAPSK="My wireless password"
[/quote20zfg68z]
Is it a typo on the last line "eth-wifi"? It should be ra0. The driver you are using is very old. Can you try again with the latest CVS tarball please?

Romain

Thank you Romain for your fast reply.
I've installed the last cvs rt2500-cvs-2007051006

And I run the configuration

ifconfig ra0 up
iwconfig ra0 channel 5
iwconfig ra0 essid MyPlace
iwpriv ra0 set AuthMode=WPAPSK
iwpriv ra0 set EncrypType=TKIP
iwpriv ra0 set WPAPSK="My_passwd"
ifconfig ra0 192.168.10.199
route add default gw 192.168.10.1

I have the same problem, It connects to the AP, then the LED blinks 3 times and disconnects. Then reconnects and so on.
I don't know if this can help but the LED blinks in the same way in Windows when password is not correct.

I encounter the same problem I have a Fonera (Fon router) and the rt2500 driver and connection is disconnected one or two second after. I run a Debian testing, and rebuild the rt2500 package from sources.

Could you please post the/your solution?

Thanks for any help (I don't know how to "debug" a wifi connection problem.

Hello,
Have a look at the TESTING file coming with the driver. It explains how to generate a debug trace. Once generated, post it here.

Romain

Since today, I was running rt2500 1.1.0-b4 on
Linux hercules.olympe.fr 2.6.21.070828 #1 SMP Tue Aug 28 105915 CEST 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
I was able to connect open and WEP wifi network. But unable to connect WPA protected network.

So I tried a more recent version tagged as cvs20070924-1 by Debian people.
With this version, I'm unable to connect any network.
On a WPA try, I did a debug log (attached)

I will give a try with the CVS snapshot this WE.

No more succes with rt2500-cvs-2007103016.

Using this version of the driver, I'm no more able to connect WPA nor WEP protected network.

Here is a full TESTING report.

I tried the rt2x00 driver in version 2.0.9-1 on a freshly updated kernel (2.6.22). But no more chance I was unable to connect any network.

I'm confused why am I able to connect WEP network with 1.1.0-b4 and why any new version of the driver seems unable to connect anything ?

Spy84464

This is weird, I'm using 2.6.22 and have no problem to connect using WEP or WPAPSK with the latest CVS tarball.
Do your networks appear when scanning?
For the record, here is my configuration script
[code21cz83yp]iwconfig ra0 essid my_essid_here
iwpriv ra0 set AuthMode=WPAPSK
iwpriv ra0 set EncrypType=TKIP
iwpriv ra0 set WPAPSK=my_password_here[/code21cz83yp]
I'm using static IPs, this script is run once the IP set, meaning the interface is up.

I did more tests.
Now, I have a relative success running daily (CVS) version on kernel 2.6.21 for my WEP network and open network. In order to doing this, I have to set explicitly et mac address of the AP.

Furthermore, as I switched multiple times form one configuration to another, I seem to detect that driver need time between "ifconfig down" and "ifconfig up". If I not respect some times (3sec ?) further "iwconfig" settings are not applied.

Concerning WPA, I detected that association is regularly lost when running "dhclient". Here is my test
- on a console, I run commands
- on another console I run iwconfig (in loop).
- when I set WPA parameters, association seems OK (the AP mac address is displayed)
- when I start dhclient, the association is lost every 3 seconds (the AP mac address disappear and re-appear regularly).
Any idea of the reason?
How can I obtain more info? I tried wireshark, but it do not display IEEE 802.11 info (or I don't know how to do it).

Other question the WPAPSK should be
- the clear pass
- the hex version (computed with wpa_passphrase)

Positive point it seems that running the CVS version allow me to have a 54Mb/s rate in WEP mode, while before I think I only have 24Mb/s.

Great thank for any support.

Some other info.

I ran RutilT. It scans my WPA network as WEP one.

I ran kismet. It scans my WPA network as "WEP TKIP WPA" network.

Hard to understand.

Hello,
This is a bug with RutilT, I'm working on it right now.
You should set the plain ascii key, not an hexadecimal value.
Are things working if you set a static IP? Please post a debug trace, as explained in the TESTING file, when running dhclient.

Romain
