I have a rt2500pci card on an 64 bit system (Ubuntu) AMD X2 processor and i'm
trying latest vanilla kernels i've used a 2.6.24-rc5 kernel without mayor issues
(except that i have to issue a sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M because it allways
connect at 1Mbit and it is dog slow) but now with v2.6.24-rc6-83-g5b825ed i
have my dmesg spammed with

The connection seems to work anyways so i do not think this is critical.
Thanks in advance for your time.

This has been observed for a while on rt61, it used to result in the card ceasing to function but Matthias introduced a patch recently which tries to work round the problem and rt61 now seems to work reliably when this problem occurs. It seems from your feedback that that is also true of rt2500.

The correct thing to do in that case is probably to add if (net_ratelimit()) in front of the log as it does indicate an error that is being worked around rather than what we think is correct behaviour.

The question is... why with rc5 i do not see any msg on dmesg but i see them with v2.6.24-rc6-83-g5b825ed ?

For the record the msg doesnĄt appear with normal browsing; irc and email traffic. They appear with bittorrent traffic

Well, I also have them every now and then on rt61pci. Are you sure you can still transfer data once the messages start?

My best bet on this is the race condition between the interrupt handler and the tx code I've discussed with IvD on the ML some months ago. I'm away from my development machine for the next weeks, so I cannot create a patch for you to test. Maybe you can talk IvD into making one wink

Well i'm sure because i can continue to irc the bittorrent client continues to work i can browse the web etc. My network is router<-->desktop so i can not make better tests i'm afraid...

I take back the statement about the problem acurring only in one version of the kernel of the two tested.

Since having updated the kernel of my Ubuntu Gutsy installation to version 2.6.22-14.51, I can confirm these messages appearing massively in /var/log/syslog (however, the wireless connection still works). My rt2x00 driver is rather old (2.0.4), but before the kernel update (which was on Tuesday, IIRC) I've never noticed such log entries. Is this sth to worry about? (Apart from the fact that these messages indeed flood the logs..)

Best wishes,
Karsten

This issue should be resolved in 2.1.0, but due to other bugs this has yet to be confirmed.
