Hi, I recently upgraded from Fedora 5 to Fedora 9. My RaLink rt2500 pci card worked fine under Fedora 5, but will not work under Fedora 9. The hardware seems to be recognized, it detects my wireless router but won't connect. I even disabled security on the wireless router, but still no go. I'm afraid I'm not much of a linux kernel wizard. My previous installation was set up by the manufacturer. Any help will surely be appreciated.

Here are some bits I hope you'll find useful

Thanks. If you need any more info from me don't hesitate to ask. I'll keep an eye on this forum.

Fix has been merged upstream, keep an eye out for new Fedora kernels since one should soon appear containing he above mentioned fix. )

How will I know? How will the patch be indentified?

Don't know, I usually find out which rt2x00 patches are in the kernel when I get a Fedora bugzilla report. ;)

Just check the next release of a Fedora kernel in rawhide and see if it works, it must at least be released after August 1, since that was the day the patch was merged upstream.

I'm not that familiar with the Fedora development cycle, but I understand that Rawhide is the head of the active development branch. Will the fix be available in the Fedora 9 Release branch, too? I really don't want to be on the bleeding edge just to have wireless networking.

I don't know, that are things that you should ask the Fedora people. I don't know their release cycles.
All I know is that Fedora ships very recent rt2x00 versions, and that it is updated frequently,
if you add yourself to their bugreport about the issue
https//bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=451422
then you will probably be notified which kernel the patch will be and how the release cycle for that patch will go.

As you suggested, I have been following https//bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=451422 to see the status of this problem. The issue is closed because it is supposed to work in the current fc9 kernel. I am running that kernel, and it still doesn't work for me. I sure would appreciate any help I can get. Gnome Network Manager detects my wireless network, but it fails to associate.
