hi,

i'm really sorry but i'm lost in that all HOWTO and others manuals. i spend half day by googling, read this forum and another forums but no success.

i want to make clear in this problem and i hope in your help.

so i have gentoo system with kernel [i34brout6]2.6.25-gentoo-r6[/i34brout6]. in this kernel is support for Ralink wireless card. i add drivers for RT61 like modules. list of my .config is hear
[code34brout6]
CONFIG_RT2X00=m
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB=m
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_PCI=m
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_FIRMWARE=y
# CONFIG_RT2400PCI is not set
# CONFIG_RT2500PCI is not set
CONFIG_RT61PCI=m
# CONFIG_RT61PCI_RFKILL is not set
# CONFIG_RT2500USB is not set
# CONFIG_RT73USB is not set
CONFIG_RT2X00_DEBUG=y
[/code34brout6]

recompile kernel and reboot. all was allright. then i created [i34brout6]net.wlan0[/i34brout6] a tried start wlan0 with this config in [i34brout6]/etc/conf.d/net[/i34brout6] (master mode is because i want run AP via hostapd)
[code34brout6]
mode_wlan0="master"
essid_wlan0="WLDF"
channel_wlan0="6"
config_wlan0=( "192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0" )
[/code34brout6]

but there started my problem. if i try start wlan0 i see this output
[code34brout6]
root # /etc/init.d/net.wlan0 start

* Caching service dependencies ... [ ok ]
* Starting wlan0
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory

[/code34brout6]

i read that i need firmawe (but in [i34brout6].config[/i34brout6] is line CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_FIRMWARE=y so i don't know if i need firmware) . so i download [i34brout6]RT61_Firmware_V1.2.zip[/i34brout6]. but i'm not able to find out where i have to save this firmware. i found some topics on ubuntuforum that i have to create [i34brout6]/etc/Wireless/RT61[/i34brout6] but this doesn't work on Gentoo.

can you help me what i do bad? because if i cannot run wlan0 so i cannot run hostapd.

Well there are several topics regarding master mode

1) iwconfig wlan0 mode master is not allowed
2) you _must_ use the very latest hostapd version which support nl80211.

As for the firmware
1) CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_FIRMWARE is an internal config option, when it is enabled it means you actually do need firmware
2) The gentoo location for firmware is /lib/firmware/

OK, i create this folder and copy into ralink firmware and it runs.

i have version [i3bmfgfpu]hostapd-0.6.4[/i3bmfgfpu]

and what do you want to know? i save firmware into /lib/firmware/ and it works. i tried config [i2bqpzvwp]hostapd.conf[/i2bqpzvwp] but with no success. i had problem with nl80211 support. so i put it to "icebox" and will solve it in the future ].

it is my problem
[url1go0t3vl]http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5087[/url1go0t3vl]
why it always err"no such file or directory" when i ifconfig wlan0 up.
i confiured the kernle for firmware loader and copy the firmware to "/lib/firmware".
is something wrong about the configuraton of kernel?
