Hey guys, I have compiled the latest 2.6.31 kernel (by the time of this writing), including support for the rt61pci driver for my rt2561 card.
Unfortunately Im at work and this is the only place where I can get Internet, here, and Home of course, where im sharing a wireless connection with my neighbour (we've agreed on this so theres no stealing).

I've got to create a new device with the "iw" tool which I have named "assoc" and its in managed mode with flags none

iw add wlan0 interface assoc mode managed flags none

(I *THINK* it was like this, i have the exact command in my computer)

The thing is that I get to associate with the access point, I stay connected for a coupple of minutes (10 or so) and then dmesg shows something like this

phy0 disabling, idle
DESTROYED SMT? ... [MAC ADDRESS]
....
....

So I thought, "If the interface is idle and then is shutting it down it should have to do with power managment"

iwconfig assoc power off

Still the same

So then I thought "Ok so, If it idles it means that there is no link activity"

omega@localshot~$ping -s 1 www.google.com

Same deal ... it lasts a bit longer but it dies anyways.

This is how i put my interface up

rmmod rt61pci;
modprobe rt61pci;
iw add wlan0 interface assoc mode managed flags none
ifconfig wlan0 down
iwconfig assoc essid "blah" channel 7 key spassword
ifconfig assoc up
dhcpcd assoc

I've even tried

modprobe rt61pci nohwcrypt=1;

Just in case.

Im very sorry but i dont have the exact dmesg output, I'll see if I can paste it tonight, but maybe someone knows the problem beforehand )

Well you are simply missing 1 command, the one that makes it associate to the AP.
For iwconfig this command is 'iwconfig wlan0 ap ....', not sure what the exact command for 'iw' is.

I've tried both

iwconfig wlan0 essid "Wireless" key s123456

iwconfig assoc essid "Wireless" key s123456

I can connect, but after a while the connection just simply dies! I will try to post dmesg in a while (that is if i can even connect S)

I have also killed everything that has to do with ACPI, with no success, after staying connected a while the link goes down.
