Hi.
I have usb device TL-WN727N. And i want to use this device in Access Point mode in Debian 6 (2.6.32-trunk-686).
lsusb
[code1ficxpn3]Bus 001 Device 016: ID 148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2870 Wireless Adapter[/code1ficxpn3]
I compile a kernel module rt3070sta from source code taken from the site Ralink. Copy the file RT2870STA.dat in /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/.
After kill all standart kernel module (rt2x00usb, rt2x00lib, rt2800usb) i load my new module - insmod rt3070sta.ko
Then this i see in iwconfig
[code1ficxpn3]
ra0 RT2870 Wireless ESSID:""
Mode:Auto Frequency=2.412 GHz
Link Quality=10/100 Signal level:0 dBm Noise level:-143 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
[/code1ficxpn3]
And i can use my device as wi-fi adapter.
Then i install libnl1 and libnl-dev from repo.
After uncomment string
[code1ficxpn3]CONFIG_DRIVER_NL80211=y[/code1ficxpn3]
in .config
And compile hostapd last version (i try 0.6.9 and 0.7.1).
My hostapd.conf like this
[code1ficxpn3]interface=ra0
driver=nl80211
logger_syslog=1
logger_syslog_level=2
logger_stdout=1
logger_stdout_level=2
debug=1
dump_file=/tmp/hostapd.dump
ctrl_interface=/var/run/hostapd
ssid=MySsidName
hw_mode=g
channel=1
beacon_int=100
dtim_period=2
max_num_sta=255
rts_threshold=2347
fragm_threshold=2346
wpa=2
wpa_passphrase=MyPass
wpa_pairwise=TKIP CCMP[/code1ficxpn3]
Then i try start hostapd
[code1ficxpn3]# ./hostapd -dd hostapd.conf
Configuration file: ../hostapd-0.7.1/hostapd.conf
Line 7: DEPRECATED: 'debug' configuration variable is not used anymore

After start hostapd (0.6.9 or 0.7.1)
[code3np7iop8]# ./hostapd hostapd.conf
Configuration file: hostapd.conf
Using interface wlan1 with hwaddr 00:25:86:ee:e3:88 and ssid 'MySSIDName'[/code3np7iop8]
with hostapd.conf
[code3np7iop8]interface=wlan1
driver=nl80211
logger_syslog=1
logger_syslog_level=2
logger_stdout=1
logger_stdout_level=2
debug=1
dump_file=/tmp/hostapd.dump
ctrl_interface=/var/run/hostapd

Hi,

You put wrong interface wlan1 in hostap.conf and the correct interface is ra0. Im trying to do the some thing, and I can't... But, I want to know, how you arrived at this point
[code5a3ki6oh]# ./hostapd hostapd.conf
Configuration file: hostapd.conf
Using interface wlan1 with hwaddr 00:25:86:ee:e3:88 and ssid 'MySSIDName'[/code5a3ki6oh]

Because you didn't explain, thanks. My problem is the nl80211 the same problem.
