Can anyone recommend a specific wireless USB NIC that works with a recent kernel, preferably mainline?

I have a Novatech adapter (NovaTech NovaTech NV-902W) currently that has only ever worked with a now ancient 2.6.27-wl kernel. This is the rt2500usb chipset, and judging from the forum, it seems this chipset continues to have issues.
