I have been trying to get my wmpg54 v4.4 (RT 2561 chipset) wireless network card going on a Debian Etch minimal install. I have not been very successful, though.
After a lot of tinkering I finally got the drivers installed, but now there is another problem. Whenever I try to start the service it gives the following errors (not that I did not copy these, but remembered them, so their exact syntax may be slightly different)
Error in "Set Mode" (8B06) Network is down.
Error in "Set ESSID" (8B1A) Network is down.
My /etc/network/interfaces file looks something like this (please forgive me for writing something like, I will reboot, have a look at it, reboot again and correct this when I have had dinner)
I hope somebody will be able to help me getting my wireless card up.
As I had not received an answer yet I went thinking about what I could try next. Finally I decided I would try using the pre-up prefix, so I rebooted into debian and... I got a DHCPACK as a response to my DHCPREQUEST (I guess it does pay to follow as much as you can from what is shown during boot) and I could ping to a random website.
So I guess the problem has resolved itself.
Just wanna say thanks for the driver, now that I am typing anyway - so far it's working pretty well (okey that doesn't really mean much as it has only run 5 minutes, but anyway).
