Hey all just downloaded the latest rt73 cvs today and it seems someone made a mistake and it doesnt work with my card...
Linux ubuntu 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 230512 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
the revision of chris's worked fine other than the wpa, for some reason the wpa completely locked up my system but I could use wep.

notedriver worked fine in feisty, something was changed in gutsy for it not to work, any ideas on how to fix the wpa? Other than that does anyone have any of the old rt73-cvs's because i am unable to use the latest, if anyone has it, it would be much appreciated.

I think the developer should recognize now that the latest
version of rt73 is bugged there are more or less 10 people around
this forum that are experiencing problems.

In my case (and I'm not the only one) everything worked with
rt73-cvs-2007101214, that you will find attached in this thread
http// ... php?t=4402
(kris313 posted it. thankyou again kris313).

btw here is my card info

Hi defcon,

Thanks for your work in doing the validation. I appreciate it.

Dear Vern,

[quote386tzdpc]I *think* I've got it fixed. Try the lates CVS hourly tarball.[/quote386tzdpc]

Yes, it seems you fixed the problem.
I've just compiled and installed rt73-cvs-2007110811 and it works perfectly
with my Edimax EW-7318USg, http// ... &pl2_id=44

I really appreciate the work of rt2x00 people.

10-11-2007 16:08:02

hey all,

after hours of frustration in other forums, here I actually got my Belkin 050d705a to work, with that old driver rt73-cvs-2007101214 and the latest driver rt73-cvs-2007111008, and finally the iwlist scan works and find my ( and other) networks.

BUT When I reboot, stick is not blinking and not scanning ( manually put it up with sudo ifconfig wlan0 up) , I have to take up,down and up, that would be OK. But if I try to connect to my WPA secured network with rutilT, the computer freezes instantly, CAPS lock at the keyboard blinking as before, but the stick automatically connects to open WEP network that is nearby.

I feel I am so close now, it has to start working.
Before I was using Ubuntu Dapper and everything worked fine. Too bad I updated Xubuntu Gutsy Gibbon

Does anyone have an idea? I realize many other people have this problem with Gutsy and WPA as well, what does Gutsy include that keep secure WPA connection from working?

13-11-2007 19:09:02

And what happens if you configure WPA manually? Try to do so in a true tty (outside of X), this may provide more information about the crash.

14-11-2007 19:08:26

maybe this helps, I had to copy it by hand, I hope I did it correctly The freeze occurs after I set the correct key, I tried it with a false one, and the system did NOT hang.
[codephv3ijwo]root@FRED:~$ iwpriv wlan0 set WPAPSK="MYKEY"
[404.107636] kobject_add failed for: d-0000008 with -EEXIST, don't try to register things with the same name in the same directory.
[404.108026] kernel panic - not syncing: Creation kmalloc slab kmalloc-dma - 2 size=2 failed

That's when I have to manually reboot by turning the power off.

It seems like this is some usable piece of information, but I don't know what happens, I sincerely hope you do Spy84464

16-11-2007 20:53:59

Hi. First post.

I can confirm this. The latest daily CVS driver totally freezes my computer when RutilT asks for the wireless network password.

18-11-2007 15:53:27

This looks useful indeed. I'm not much into driver development though (.

23-11-2007 22:33:07

thx, i managed to make my Belkin F5D7050 v3x to work with this driver.
and yes the newer version bug !

i also had a bug with the other rt73usb driver (witch is default on ubuntu 7.10) => it worked, but the speed goes down to 1Mb after 15 or 20 sec .......
with THIS driver i can have 20Mb with my internet ^^ much better

ps my internet is not faster (

26-11-2007 00:37:28

I have not got it to work. And I have wrecked my brains for quite some time (

I appreciate the effort you guys put into this though. If I can do anything to help or any information I could give you... just let me know!

Put in the WPA key and it just hangs. Reboot everytime (

DO you guys think the older driver will work? If so... where can I go to get the older one to try?

26-11-2007 23:40:23

Just to make things clear, are you experiencing this issue with the very latest CVS tarball?

04-12-2007 17:05:02

Sorry about the late reply.

But yes, you are correct. With the latest tarball when I posted. I am not sure if you released a new one. I will check now and try again. I will also have a look for an older cvs release if available and install.

20-01-2008 20:10:05

I'm having the same problem as maniqui, I have the Edimax EW-7318USg.

Using RutilT I can see the various wireless networks in the vicinty. But when I supply the WPA key, and am asked for the administrator's password, my machine completely hangs. The odd thing though is that it had been working fine the last month or so. Not sure what changed recently (some ubuntu update??) but now its completely buggered. This is even when using the latest rt73 drivers and 0.16 RutilT.

Any ideas? Any help would be most appreciated.

21-01-2008 13:21:43

Hi I manage to buy a new USB D-Link DWL-G122 C1(USB) and it definately using RT73.

I manage to install all the driver and stuff, but I encountered a few problem same as some people in here

1. the wlan0 interface dosent auto UP itself when the usb stick plugged
2. it will freeze my systems when i try to connect to an Access Point manually via RutilT gui

PS I'm using [b3edj5dif]rt73-cvs-2008012105[/b3edj5dif]

21-01-2008 14:50:52

As observed by other users, if I abandon using RutilT and just update the /etc/network/interfaces file (in Ubuntu gutsy) then all works well.

erm using command line to connect works but RutilT dosent is this RutilT bug or the driver?. is there any solution for this? w/o RuliT the connection wont auto reconnect when dropped evil it a burnden to run my shell script to reconnect all the time manually and intrupting my donwload while i sleep p

22-01-2008 14:00:54

It could be a RutilT bug. Are you using the Ubuntu package, or have you compiled it yourself?

23-01-2008 15:52:23

Manually compile ubuntu packages dont have v0.16 ) seem it have no problem using my notebook but on my desktop pc it hang when i try to apply any profiles i have in the list wierd ...

25-01-2008 10:55:59

Could you then recompile RutilT with debug enabled? And post the last lines printed when the crash occurs?

26-01-2008 19:33:04

Looks like this problem is here[/url297lq65g]. Could we work it there?

27-01-2008 10:35:59

No problem.
