[solved] changing mac address breaks rt73
Ok I use macchanger to change my mac to a different mac via pre-up macchanger -a wlan0 and I can scan for ap's but cannot connect, 6 months ago I used to be able to do this. You can re-create this issue by adding that macchanger line above to the rt73 driver, dmesg shows
[15110.731035] rt73 Active MAC is 00273fc5bf94.
[15110.731041] rt73 Local MAC = 00273fc5bf94
the active mac is the real mac and local mac=fake mac
connection quality shows 0/100 percent 5 feet from ap, mac filtering = off
re-created this on ubuntu feisty, gutsy, and hardy heron with 2 different access points
I am thinking this issue is related to the "SIOSSIFFLAGS" issue, the fix fixed the "SIOSSIFFLAGS issue but broke faking mac capability
note using latest driver
I've just submitted some updates for the legacy rt73 driver for inclusion into CVS, which should start to appear Real Soon Now in the hourly tarballs.
When it does appear in an hourly tarball, could you try it and see if it helps the "fake mac" problem?
Vern, your amazing, the latest fixes fixed this issue, just compiled/reinstalled new driver and pinging yahoo/posting here worked great!
Thanks. (Nice to get something right for a change!)

If you have a new topic, start a new thread. Your problem description is not very informative. You might read the "Read Me Before Posting" announcement at the top of this section to get some tips on what information is useful. Basically, we need a short, concise problem statement.
So I look forward to seeing that in the new thread you're going to start.
okay sorry for my off topic....
