well after struggling with ralink's drivers and the post-2.6.23 "EXTRA_CFLAGS" errors, I stumbled across a post on this board stating the user was able to use serialmonkey's drivers no problem

so i tried... and.....

[code16i2zgq5]make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.24.1'

I know my headers are there cause I compiled from source and my /lib/modules/yada/yada.... is symlinked as well...

any ideas?

You don't seem to have wireless support enabled in your kernel.
Make sure you have at least CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT enabled.
