I have loaded the RT73 driver to use with my Edimax usb adaptor. the card seems to function fine and will associate with a router when I type
sudo iwconfig rausb0 essid *****

I enter the password as
sudo iwconfig rausb0 key s'************'

and obtain a ip address with
sudo dhclient rausb0

which gives me
There is already a pid file /var/run/dhclient.pid with pid 11287
killed old client process, removed PID file

but then I am unable to browse the internet.
I have a built in card which works fine and ubuntu's network manager shows both cards and the list of ap's avaliable for each but the edimax ap show zero signal and don't connect.

anyone have any idea?

IMPORTANT READ BEFORE POSTING!!![/urlrwziahna]
And especially the section "information"

Secondly, I am willing to claim that you are using the in-kernel rt73usb driver instead of the legacy rt73....

no, still no luck though now the network manager doesn't recognize the edimax.
I probably should note that the adaptor does work for monitoring and packet injection works, but would like to use it to connect aswell as it has better reception

As I stated before everything works, packet injection, monitoring associating to ap and usually I can get the IP address with dhclient though that didn't seem to work last time but then when I try browse the internet - nothing also network manager shows all the ap's under the usb dongle as having no signal and tries but is unable to connect to them

Thanks for any help

Have you removed
rt73usb
rt2500usb
rt2x00usb
rt2x00lib
modules?
If not, start with it.

Forget the networkmanager.

the output of
iwcofig
lsmod
is necessary to step forward.

k2wrlz modifications 3.0.1[/quoterwjsrwmq]
Well, you are using drivers originally designed here but heavily modified by another project.
Nobody here knows how work these drivers or what has been changed.

So, return to the same topic. IMPORTANT READ BEFORE POSTING!!![/urlrwjsrwmq]
Section Supported drivers, you can read [quoterwjsrwmq]We provide support for the following drivers which are downloaded from our website
....
We don't provide support for drivers which have not been released by this project, this means we don't support the drivers downloaded from the Ralink website or any other project and we don't support the Windows, MacOS or BSD drivers.
If you downloaded the driver from another website, then that is the website where you should raise support questions.[/quoterwjsrwmq] Sorry, but you have to ask there. Good luck.

You can also try to use a driver from this site and then people here can help you.

woohoo, problem solved.
Sorry I didn't realise that the drivers weren't from this website, your drivers work like a charm.
everything except for network manager but I can live without that when I need to use the external wifi key.
Thanks all
