-------------------------------------------------
!!!!!n00b alert!!!!!
-------------------------------------------------
got the latest cvs, did the following
$ cd source/rt73/Module && make
--> "Check your kernel settings or use 'strip'", et al.
$ sudo strip -S rt73.ko && sudo make install --> no complaints.
It sent rt73.ko to /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/extra (not to /lib/modules per the README)
I moved it to /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic;
also copied rt73.bin from /lib/firmware to /lib/firmware/2.6.24-19-generic.
$ sudo modprobe rt73 ifname=wlan0 firmName=rt73.bin --> no complaints.
$ sudo depmod -a --> no complaints.
lsmod --> rt73 w/ a size of 304256 (in /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic it's 245.6KB), used by 0
$ sudo ifup wlan0
Ignoring unknown interface wlan0=wlan0.
$ sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
wlan0 ERROR while getting interface flags No such device
$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 mode managed
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06)
SET failed on device wlan0 ; No such device.
c$ sudo insmod /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/rt73.ko
insmod error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/rt73.ko' -1 File exists

If the answer is in this forum, i missed it & do apologize.
Thanks for your time.

Hello,
Remove the module "modprobe -r rt73", then reinsert it "modprobe rt73", and post the output of "dmesg", the last lines should suffice.
Why did you moved the module from "extra"? It's fine there.

Romain

Please note that 'depmod' should be done before 'modprobe', but that doesn't matter in this case.

What is the output of 'dmesg' after loading the rt73 module?
And what is the output of 'iwconfig' and 'ifconfig -a'
