Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has succed in creating an Access Point with hostapd and a ralink PCI chip. By Access Point, I mean a wireless interface in master mode bridged with an ethernet interface. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have in my two story house a AVM Fritz!box (downstairs) and a Debian Sid Desktop computer (upstairs) using a "D-Link System Inc DWL-G510 Rev C" WiFi card in bridgemode with a network card connected to the Fritz!box.
The D-Link card uses rt61pci as driver and hostapd for master mode.
Previously I was using a fine working p54pci card, but due to a hardware failure (my daughter pulled on the antenna...) I had to replace the card.
With the rt61pci I have unstable connections (using iPhone, Archos 605, MacBook and a Windows Laptop) and am currently forced to use the Fritz!box with lower link quality upstairs.

I actually don't see any error messages in the hostapd-syslog entries and from the driver I also don't get anything.

So I was actually planning on just to wait for somebody else to resolve this - but this does not seem to happen...

Cheers
Rainer

Hi,

Thanks for your post! By unstable connections, you means a lot of disassociations or you can't contact other computers?

Hi,

I mean sometimes losing working connections and not being able to create new connections.

Funny enough on the Archos I am able to stream a video using mediatomb, but I am not able to stream a MP3 Audio file reliably (The archos even reboots sometimes...)

Connecting from a Windows box gives me sometimes a timeout on Windows, sometimes a reason_code 3 on the hostapd.

What kind of error logs can I look at? Is the hostapd -ddddd output good enough?

Cheers
Rainer
