Up to the current CVS (04/03/2009), rt61 does not compile under kernel 2.6.29.1:

Thanks for this info. It is a bit sad, since I haven't been able to make the in-kernel driver work with my notebook.

Well I can't find any of your bugreports for rt2x00 related issues on this forum either....
So I suggest you read the IMPORTANT: READ BEFORE POSTING!!! topic, or go to linuxwireless.org which also provides documentation about configuring wireless interfaces.

Hi!

I am also really sad because I have got three rt-chipset cards.
rt61, rt2500 and rt73.
All of them worked with the legacy drivers but none of them worked with the rt2x00 in-kernel driver. (Once I could set up an in-kernel rt2x00pci, but its maximum speed was 53kbyte/sec!)

SAD : :(

Yesterday I tried to comply the cvs drivers and got the mentioned error messages (using Mandriva 2009.1).

Hi Cappa,

in the meantime I gave the new rt2x00 driver a second try. It seems that it has improved since my first try, as it now works on my notebook, including WPA encryption.

This time I didn't try to set the prarameters manually in /etc/network/interfaces - I instead use the network-manager with "managed" set to "true" in the nm config file, i.e. I now have an almost empty interfaces file (because I have cable and wireless connection at the same time and the network-manager automagically sets the route). It works like a charme.

Hi,

You were lucky. I did not have such fortune... :(
I tried rt61 and rt73.
Something wlan0 and wmaster0 were presented as the output of iwconfig.
Since I am a noob, I will not be able to do more...
