Hi, I need help for configure my wifi card in master mode. I read that I must install a patch for enable this function but I don't know install it.

No you no longer need a patch. rt2x00 includes it automatically. What you do need is the most recent hostapd version.

Two question more:

1) I don't have installed the rt2x00 of this page, I have installed default rt2500 kubuntu driver, this drivers are same???.

2) In the hostapd documentation, I read that in the driver field only can have this values hostap, madwifi, prims54. this field would not have put rt2500 also???? (the version of hostapd that I have installed is 0.5.9)

Depends on the kernel version. rt2x00 is inside the Linux kernel since kernel 2.6.24. But none currently released kernel contains a rt2x00 version which supports master mode. As I said earlier you need rt2x00.git for that.



That is _not_ the latest version. The latest version includes support for nl80211 and that is required (and the driver you must select in hostapd).

Thanks for the reply but I need your help another time. I have installed git, I have downloaded the rt2x00.git in /home/myuser/rt2x00 and I compiled the sources with "make && make modules" (give me an error but generated the rt2x00 modules). When I type "modprobe /home/myuser/rt2x00/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt2x00pci.ko" for install the module, return me an error. I have installed linux-source-2.6.24 (kernel of Kubuntu 8.04) and uncompressed in /usr/src/ and I have one symbolic link from /lib/kernel/modules/build in /usr/src/ and /home/myuser/rt2x00/.

rt2x00.git is an entire kernel, you cannot simply load a module compiled for 2.6.26 for a 2.6.24 kernel, you need to install and boot into that specific kernel.

Ok, but that means you just have to wait longer since mac80211 in 2.6.26 will have master mode disabled.
You option would be to either patch the kernel and recompile the kernel when that kernel is released, or use rt2x00.git which contains that patch by default.
Currently I have not seen any schedule for master mode in mac80211 so it might be 2.6.27 or later before that patch is merged.
