rt2570USB drives do not work do we need to update firmware?

If the rt2570USB drives do not work "out of the box" on Ubuntu 8.04 or better, do we need to update firmware?
http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Linux.html

If so do we use the Firmware RT2501USB(RT2571W/RT2671) firmware from ralinktech?
And does anyone know how to flash the firmware using simple commands?

rt2570/rt2500usb doesn't work with firmware, so no update is needed.

This is hardly am useful error description... You might want to use the rt2x00 package from backports to get the latest version of the driver.

Sorry about that.
I am using a Linksys wusb56gv4 and could not get the product to work properly in Ubuntu 8.04.
The USB wlan adapter would connect but would have long long periods of painfully slow downloads speeds.
Then a minute or less of fast speeds.
Then back to slow.
For 4-5 days I posted my sorrows of trying to get this to work on another thread on this forum but got no replies.

Using these instructions I got the card to work: :D
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=804270&highlight=wusb56gv4
But I would like this to work with the default drivers in Ubuntu if possible and wondered if the LINKSYS WUSB56GV4 needed the firmware updated to work properly.
I bought this device as I heard it worked well with your drivers.
I am looking for something that works out of the box.
It is exciting to see yet another piece falling into place (your drivers) to bring free software to the masses. Driver make things go!

Those instructions will install the legacy driver (which is fine), but as far as I know Ubuntu provides an updated rt2x00 package in backports that seemed to work for most people who had previously problems with the rt2x00 driver installed during the regular installation.
