Hi,
I'm fairly new to all of this, so please forgive me up front for my
ignorance. I'm trying to correct it.
I've got a couple of RT2571 modules. I have the latest (as of a couple days
ago) copy from the rt2x00 project git repository.
I am trying to build an embedded target on linux 2.6.29.2. As far as I can
tell, this is out of sync with the current rt2x00 repository.
The reason for the 2.6.29.2 use is that I understand the latest kernels have
more support for building host access points with hostapd via mac80211.
Which kernel should I use? The one from rt2x00 or the latest from
kernel.org?
I see that the rt2x00 kernel is based on 2.6.29. Will that be sufficient
for what I'm doing?
Also, how does the numbering of the modules work? Why is rt2571 tied to
rt73? And on your website, you refer to support for legacy modules is
gone. Is that software support, because it's been moved to a different
naming scheme? Or is the project not supporting older wifi modules?
I've been doing some reading on the forums, and it looks like there's hope
for making hostapd work for these modules. Is there any guidance on how to
make these work with hostapd?
Again, please accept my apologies for my ignorance. I appreciate your help
fixing it.
Thanks,
Matt Gessner
