The device does receive the frames, but they arrive with the CRC error bit enabled,
so far it remains unclear why the frames are received witht the error bit enabled.,

Yes, monitor mode devices do pass frames with the CRC error flag to userspace,
but it won't be passed to the MLME machine to actually process them. I have tried
to bypass this check, but that only means the beacons are seen, but association
will fail because it won't receive any other frames from that AP.
